Is an 18 gauge stainless steel sink really better than a 20 gauge?

Consumer Reports says there is no difference during their testing. But everything else I’ve read says there is a difference in performance.

18 ga. is thicker, which will result in quieter operation with a food waste disposer(I hate when they’re called& used as GARBAGE disposals), and will also be quieter(less tinny sounding) when the water is running.

Stainless steel sinks have been widely accepted as the sink of choice for kitchen remodeling. For years, the cast iron sink was the number one household sink. The weight, cost and the inability to repair these chips in porcelain sinks has become less favorable. Other products that have flooded the market and some are simply a better option.

Some things to consider when buying a stainless steel sink gauge (thickness) of metal and the sound damping qualities. The gauge stainless steel sinks generally run from 16 to 23 gauge. The lower the number the thicker metal will be. Overall, the 18-gauge sink is fine. Note the thickness of the metal more expensive the sink and not wear any better or last longer. Looking for the best quality at reasonable price. The recipient must also have sound dampening pads on the bottom of the pool. Do not look real thick pads. 16 will be a 32nd of an inch, but these are fine. The receiver also should be sprayed with a bottom layer in the bottom to prevent condensation on the lower in humid climates and dripping beneath the cabinets.

The finish of the pool should be a polished finish. Polished sinks are beautiful when you installed for the first time, but it wears well. Show nicks and scratches on brushed finish, it hides. There is also a wide selection of matching taps and accessories therefor too.

Stainless steel sinks, either the standard style or commercial-style zero radius, are the most practical, affordable, easy care and generally accepted in the market plunge today. Also look great with the variety of available stainless steel appliances. It's a choice you will not regret decisions.
