should we celebrate our own birthdays?
Surely, instead of following the outdated and outmoded tradition of being celebrated on our own birthdays(I beleive the Victorian English to be responsible for this), It would be more correct to celebrate our own parents, especially mothers, on this day. Particularly in the west where it is great endeavour to live to the age of 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or even 80 nowadays…
Heh! im turning 15 next sunday and i dont want u to make me feel like not throwing a party. Do you understand that???????
Just kidding. i think its upto each person to decide whether to celebrate his/her b’day. im not gonna hve a party on sunday instead im donating that cash 4 charity.
Key West, Florida is full of history. Recently I have been in a strange bed and breakfast in Eaton Street, called La Casa Knowles. Precious time was quite the paradise. When I came back home, I made a little history on the family research Knowles House in Key West. This is what I found.
The Knowles family branch Key West migrated from the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. The Knowles family fishing and agriculture. The agricultural economy in the Bahamas was reduced in the early 10th century. Due the decline of many Bahamians sought new opportunities in nearby locations. Key West seemed an attractive destination for many because of the islands booming trade sea. Fishing, sponge and cigar manufacturing increasingly attracted to many other parts of the Caribbean Bahamas, Key West, Florida.
Family tradition holds that the Knowles had previously lived in the American colonies in the 18th century, but remained loyal to Britain during the American Revolution and were forced to relocate the Bahamas, where they received land grants from the British government as compensation for their loyalty to the Crown, when their lands were confiscated from the United States.
The early Knowles "He worked in fisheries, the sponge and the cigar industry. By the late nineteenth century, David Knowles and his family were residing at Knowles House. David was a sponge fisherman and his house, looked toward the open sea that lapped up the opposite side of Eaton Street. In the last 1880s, the shallow waters across the road is filled and the current row of Victorian houses were built in the 1890s, depriving the Knowles family from their point of view of the water. David and his wife Rosa raised seven children in Knowles House. David died in 1909 leaving his widow alone to raise their young children in the family home.
For years, Rosa Knowles lived in the house with his youngest son, Benjamin Rupert Knowles. Rupert was born at home in 1896. Rupert started a business selling wholesale dealing with tropical fruits. In 1928 he met and married a young Swiss girl, Rosalie Weisser, known as Nancy. She was working as a nanny for a wealthy family Miami at the time met at the Hotel Casa Marina in Key West. After their marriage, they live in Knowles House. Nancy and Rupert Rupert care aging mother until her death in 1929. Rupert and Nancy had 3 children, Gene, Elizabeth Rose and Joan, all born at home Knowles.
During the Great Depression, Business fruits Rupert tropical failed and the family experienced hard times as economic conditions worsened in Key West. Just when things could not be worse, Rupert won the equivalent of $ 10,000 in the National Lottery of Cuba in 1935. The economic boom allowed him to start a restaurant on Caroline Street, near the bustling port. Also Some of the money used to expand the family farm, which had seen few changes since its construction. The result transformed Knowles House to its current appearance and always much needed space for their children.
While 1935 brought good fortune to the family of Rupert, but also brought calamity to the Florida Keys in the form of disastrous Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Thousands died in the middle and upper Keys, but Key West was spared the worst of the storm. Key West experienced rainfall rains. Unfortunately, the storm coincided with the renovation of Knowles House at a time when the roof had been torn to add the second floor. Children remember their mother, Nancy rainwater sweeping through the front door because, as a drop of water cascading down the stairs. Despite this setback, the remodeling the house was completed successfully and the family enjoyed many happy years in the old house
As Rupert and Nancy's children grew up and married, all went to Key West, the solution elsewhere in the country. Rupert died in 1961. Nancy Knowles live in single family home until his death in 1983. After death his mother, the children sold the family home. After several intervening owners, each of whom made property improvements, the current owners, Les Vollmert and Paul Masse bought in December 1996. After further improvements and extensions, which have continued to function as the Knowles House Bed and Breakfast Inn located in Key West, Florida.
